Computerized Accounting Specialist

Program Objectives

This Accounting diploma program is designed to prepare the student for an entry level job in the general accounting office. This consists of understanding the computerized accounting process, the accounting cycle as it pertains to sole proprietorships and corporations, and an introduction to personal income taxation.

Other duties can include:

  • Performs full charge bookkeeping and preparing financial statements using computerized spreadsheets and accounting software packages.
  • Works with tax accounting software to prepare various tax returns to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Handle payroll, make purchases, prepare invoices, and keep track of overdue accounts
  • Performs a variety of accounting, math, and clerical functions
  • Reconciles computer reports with operating reports

  • A strong aptitude for numbers – basic business math computations and their applications
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Understanding of advanced computer software
  • Understanding of full charge bookkeeping, the accounting cycle, and individual income tax preparation

The large size of this occupation ensures plentiful job openings. Demand for full-charge accounting specialists is expected to increase as they are called upon to do much of the work of the accountants. Those with generalized accounting experience will have the best prospects, as well as advancement opportunities.
