You probably already know, but SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Ranking businesses on Google’s front page is the gist of what search engine optimization is about.
Different kinds of SEO:
There are two different types of SEOs that work online using separate methods. So far both methods have proven to work but almost in completely opposite ways. An SEO can either be considered White Hat or Black Hat.
What does that mean?
Black Hat SEO:
A Black Hat SEO is someone who tries to rank a website on the first page of Google. The means they use to rank these pages are against Google’s Terms and Conditions. This is why web browsing companies do not like SEOs. The ranking system that Google uses is meant to help provide people with the most relevant information. Black Hat’s will use sites that have nothing to do with the keywords they are optimized for.
Some Black Hat’s will insert invisible keywords that can’t be seen by a person but will still be picked up by Google bots scanning the page.
They will use this technique to keyword stuff on the page. Keyword stuffing is when you add just every kind of variation (or even irrelevant) keywords onto the site. This tactic is used the same way a fishing net is. The SEO is throwing out the largest net they can to try and rank at least one or two of the keywords.
These were just a few of the things Black Hat SEOs will do to rank. If they do end up ranking a page, it won’t take long for Google to notice and penalize the site. That’s why Black Hats rankings will typically be short lived.
White Hat SEO:
White Hat SEOs use tactics that aren’t against Google’s Terms and Conditions policy. They will use relevant information and post content on their sites that add value to the viewer. They will also do actual keyword research on the niches they are working with.
Keywords aren’t necessarily a bad thing if you can use them correctly. If the keywords they choose are relevant, they are considered to add value to the user. This way they are using keywords the way that Google intended them to be used. White Hat’s will also take into account the on page optimization that doesn’t have to do with keywords. They make sure that all the information such as contact details and personal information about the owner or company is correct. This might not seem important, but it absolutely is.
They also optimize the meta description which is the short paragraph underneath the websites link when the page shows up in Google. Optimizing the alt tags attached to images on their site can also help them rank. White Hat and Black Hat SEOs are very different even though they have the same goal. White Hats have the security of not needing to worry about their page being de-indexed.
When it comes to the different SEO Hat’s, think of it like Jedi’s versus the Sith’s. Good will alway triumph over evil. Keeping on your toes is what separates the average joe from an Online Marketing Expert.
